“Happiness is a habit – cultivate it”, as American writer and philosopher Elbert Hubbard would say. And so it shall. From October 31 to November 3, Groningen will be taken over by Let’s Gro; an interactive festival on innovation. This year’s theme? Happiness. What do we need to cherish and cultivate and what needs change? Here are a couple of cool events to check out:
Alternative Energy
Change is coming. Our history with earthquakes and our 2020 climate goals force us to rethink energy. Diederik Samsom, former leader of the Dutch labour party, is determined to change our energy future, by realizing all-electric housing. Come and hear Samsom’s thoughts on climate change. No admission fee or pre registration required.

Museum of the moon
Get ready, space people. During Let’s Gro, our universe will be invaded by a giant… moon. You will encounter our sole natural satellite, right above Waagplein. A glowy super realistic copy of la luna, made by Luke Jerram. The luminous object has a seven meter span and one centimeter equals five kilometers.
Always wanted to visit the moon? This is your chance. Creator Luke Jerram will give you a tour. Twice a day, for free. Astronomers such as Theo Jurriens will tag along for the ride. Don’t forget to sign up for your space travel. To infinity and beyond!

Django Girls / Rails Girls
Female? Well, lucky you. Girls and women get the chance to learn all about programming. Just in one day. For free. In English. Can it get any better than this? Well, after the Django Girls workshop you will have gained the skills (and confidence) to build your own website. To be able to attend this workshop, you need to register. But hey, it’s free. Ooh, and don’t forget to bring your laptop.

Crash Course Local Politics
On November 21, voters in Groningen will be able to elect their new city council. Part of the local international community can also vote in this election, but unfortunately this rarely happens. Few international residents are aware of Groninger municipality politics, the inner workings of the political system, and the choices one can make in it. So drop by for a crash course before you vote!
