Today, CES Unveiled Amsterdam will give attendees an exclusive sneak peek into the Dutch tech innovations that will debut at CES 2022 in Las Vegas. And we’re very proud to announce that six Northern Dutch companies will get their time in the spotlight today and five of them will also be going to CES Las Vegas this January!
The Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas is the most influential tech event in the world and the proving ground for breakthrough technologies and global innovators. This is where the world's biggest brands do business and meet new partners, and the sharpest innovators hit the stage. For innovative startups, this is one of the biggest stages to show the world what they have to offer. So without further ado, let’s meet the 6 Northern Dutch startups joining CES!
Hydraloop
Let’s start with the CES veteran of the bunch: Hydraloop from Leeuwarden. Their products collect, clean and re-use water from showers, baths, washing machines, hand basins and air conditioning units, saving up to 45% in water use. The company was the big winner during CES 2020, taking home no less than four awards, including "CES BEST of the BEST”. Leading magazines such as TIME Magazine and NEWSWEEK also selected Hydraloop in their top favorite product lists. Check out this interview (in Dutch) with the founders.
Tapp.online
Paper tech startup Tapp.online was featured at the digital edition of CES last year, so the Leeuwarden based company is also somewhat of a veteran. So what is it that they do? Founder Niels Postma basically reinvented paper; Made from agricultural waste, outfitted with chips and sensors and completely recyclable. This intelligent paper has a vast array of potential applications, ranging from monitoring things like temperature, humidity and shock intensity for transported goods like food or medicine, to real time stock monitoring or even smart business cards. The startup was founded in 2020 and is already working with organizations like Doctors without Borders, Citroën, Lipton/Unilever and HZPC, the global market leader in innovative breeding, seed potato trading and concept development.
Ivy Medical
Groningen based medtech startup Ivy Medical developed a portable IV system that significantly increases patients' freedom of movement and recovery time. The revolutionary infusion pump is also a major advance for medical staff. Thanks to smart settings, IV therapy can be planned better, reduces staff workload and the innovative system also prevents (unnecessary) alarms. This not only makes for happy patients and staff, but also leads to considerable savings in healthcare costs. “CES Las Vegas will be a great opportunity for us and the perfect boost to kickstart our marketing for an international audience”, says CFO/COO Gijs Schumer.
TAEMio
TAEMio from Heerenveen is the youngest startup of the bunch, founded by Geertje Dam and Schelte Meinsma. And they’re also in the race for the CES Innovation Award, as a category finalist and also Best of Innovation. Their HR and data-driven team optimization tool replaces the traditional periodical evaluation with a hyper personalized and scientifically validated way of measuring. A mobile app provides users with measurements on engagement, well-being, and vitality within your teams. An algorithm determines how teams can improve, suggesting which individual qualities are lacking or needed for example, how to improve team collaboration, change work culture and how goals can be achieved.
“About a year ago, Schelte and I were just talking about the idea over a cup of coffee”, Dam says. “And now here we are! We wanted to officially launch the company this year, but then we got selected for CES, which will be a great opportunity to meet potential new partners and investors. So we’ve postponed the launch until after the trade show and hopefully make some noise in the meantime!
Ocean Grazer
Startup in Residence 2020 alumnus Ocean Grazer is also joining CES this January. The University of Groningen spin-off startup developed Ocean Battery, a promising energy storage system to store renewable energy generated from the wind at sea, by using hydrostatic pressure. Through the Startup in Residence Program, Ocean Grazer tested their prototype at Groningen Seaports in the Eemshaven. Check out our 2020 interview with co-founder and CTO Marijn van Rooij here.
VRelax
And last, but certainly not least, an honorable mention goes to medtech startup VRelax. They won’t be joining the rest in Las Vegas in January, but they do get a showcase and spotlight today at CES Unveiled in Amsterdam. Their VR platform won the prestigious Prix Galien for best MedTech Innovation this year and is specifically designed as a tool to help people manage stress levels, learn to relax, but also as a distraction tool for pain management, physical discomfort and medical procedures.
